Every page has a job, a clean URL, and a reason to exist. The map is drawn before the design, so the design has to fit the map, not the other way around.

Each page answers one search intent. The title, the H1, and the first paragraph all say the same thing, so the search engine has nothing to guess about.
Semantic HTML and heading hierarchy
One H1, a logical H2 ladder, real lists where the content is a list. The markup says what the page is, which is the cheapest clarity a site can have.
A speed budget
Fonts, images, and JavaScript get a budget before the design is approved, so the finished site is fast by construction instead of by patch.
A structured data plan

Design and SEO
They're not in tension. That's the myth.
The most persistent idea in this field is that SEO and design are in opposition — that a page built to rank will look like a 2009 brochure, and a page built to look good will be invisible to the search engine. Both halves of that idea are wrong, and the correction matters, because it's the reason so many businesses accept a site they can't see or a site they don't like.
A search engine doesn't see beauty. It sees structure, clarity, and a match between the page and the query. A person sees all of those things too, plus the beauty. So the design that serves the search engine — one message per page, a clear hierarchy, a path to the action — is the same design that serves the visitor. The conflict only exists in the minds of people who design for decoration and then apologize to the search engine for it.
That's why we don't frame it as a trade-off. The hero has one call to action. The sections have real headings. The page loads in time to keep the reader. All of those are design decisions first and SEO decisions second — and they're the same decisions.
